Sunday Highlight: September 1, 2024
Now, if I tell you about visiting a town called Broken Arrow, you might think of some exotic ghost town out west. Actually, we’re only talking about the southeastern edge of Tulsa, Okla.
We know our North American Mission Board sends out hundreds of missionaries every year to plant new churches. We pray for many of those. But our board also sends out missionaries who get declining churches revved up to become more fully functional.
Stephen and Lisa Shaw are the revved-up sort of missionaries. Several years ago, they were sent to Sequoyah Creek Church in Broken Arrow. It had a nice building but wasn’t doing much.
Nowadays it’s hard to keep up with all Sequoyah Creek is doing! The church distributes food to their city’s needy and sends teams to apartment complexes for outreach. Beyond Broken Arrow, they send out teams to help plant churches in Texas and New York City.
Members also make regular mission trips to Peru, where teams serve in the inner city and provide medical clinics in the jungle. Many have come to faith in Christ. And members have become more muscular in their faith by doing the work of the church.
Aren’t you glad that our church’s Cooperative Program dollars have been invested well in Stephen and Lisa?
Let’s pray now for them and thank the Lord for what they’ve accomplished.
