Sunday Highlight: February 18, 2024
Find Washington, DC, on a map and trace your way south on I-95 for about an hour and a half drive time — you’ll come to Fredericksburg, Va. That’s where we want to pray for Brandon and Ellen Hembree, who have planted a new church called Impact Church.
Fredericksburg is a fast-growing city that is practically a part of Washington, obvious to anyone who has driven through the heavy traffic in the area. The church meets in a rented space in Chantilly, which is about 25 miles east of Pennsylvania Avenue, District of Columbia.
Brandon and Ellen are burdened when they think of the many in this urban area who do not know Christ. Impact Church has started home groups in several areas. The dream is not to just plant one church, but to launch a spiritual awakening in America’s capital.
When a crisis brought many refugees from Afghanistan into the area, Brandon and Ellen mobilized teams of volunteers to teach English to Afghans, play with their children, pray with families and share Jesus with them.
Part of our church’s Cooperative Program giving goes to Brandon and Ellen on a regular basis. Let’s pray that Impact Church will powerfully impact the capital. Let’s ask God to bless their plan to plant more new churches in and around the DC area.
