Sunday Highlight: May 12, 2024
Today, let’s pray for one of our missionaries serving in one of the most difficult situations we can imagine. We’ll call her Evie Tucker, and you’ll see why we are not using her real name.
Evie serves in Central Asia. She ministers among 4 million refugees from Syria who have fled north into Turkey to escape years of war. She is sharing Jesus with desperate, anxious people who have left their homes just to survive.
Then, one night in February 2023, two earthquakes shook Turkey and Syria. Tens of thousands were killed. For the Syrian refugees, it was more death and destruction. Half a million lost even their temporary second homes.
Southern Baptists sent food, tents, supplies, and medical help. We also sent hope, available only by faith in Christ. Through our Cooperative Program giving, our church is helping send a number of our missionaries into this nightmare of a place.
Let’s pray for Evie Tucker. As the Syrians ask where God is amid all the destruction, Evie is there to say: God has sent you a Savior — His name is Jesus.
