Sunday Highlight: December 14, 2025
Today, let’s pray for James and Sonya Herron, two brave missionaries who serve in Uganda, a country in central Africa.
You’ll understand why they’re called brave when you hear about their latest ministry: They are sharing the gospel with people afflicted with leprosy.
Yes, it’s the same disease Jesus cured in the first century. Leprosy disfigures faces and consumes parts of the body as it progresses. It’s still a dangerous disease found in 120 countries. In Uganda, leprosy is in almost half the 135 districts, like counties, across the country.
James and Sonya meet with the lepers under a tent awning to keep the sun off. They also distribute food, clothing and other items. Their faithful visits to the leper colony have captured the interest of the entire village, so the work is growing.
For 10 years James and Sonya have shared the love of Christ in Uganda, first with a group of outcasts who live on an island in a lake. Now they preach to lepers. They seek out the forgotten folks nobody else loves.
Just like Jesus did.
Isn’t our Cooperative Program great because it lets our church support missionaries like these?
