Sunday Highlight: April 13, 2025
Today in our prayer time, let’s focus on the upper Midwest. St. Paul and Minneapolis, called the Twin Cities, make up one community with some four million people. Minnesota is so far north it borders Canada.
We’re going to focus on two of those missionaries today: Jonathan and Melissa Parnell. They’re not old, but as church planters go, they’re sort of old-timers.
They first went to the Twin Cities area in 2008 and since then led in planting two churches. Jonathan still serves as lead pastor of Cities Church, which meets in downtown St. Paul, a mere mile from the governor’s residence.
But now, because of his experience, Jonathan has a wider role: He trains and encourages other pastors as they plant new churches across the Twin Cities.
That’s because thousands of new churches are needed across Minnesota; hundreds are needed in the Twin Cities. Southern Baptists have more than 6,000 missionaries serving across North America — and more are needed.
Our church has supported Jonathan and Melissa in Minnesota since 2008 through our Cooperative Program giving. Let’s pray for them now.
