Sunday Highlight: March 23, 2025
hen we think of dangerous places, we may think of Ukraine or the Middle East.
But there are dangerous places in our country and in our prayer time, let’s visit one of them.
Our missionaries Maurice and Coretta Gaiter have planted a new church in central Chicago. Maurice says it’s a dangerous place and he should know, because he grew up here. Their storefront church on West Madison Street sees too much crime and too many desperate people who often lack even enough food.
Maurice has served alongside pastors in the city for 25 years. When God called him to plant a new church, he and Coretta planted Empowerment Community Church in his old neighborhood.
He knows whatever need, question or lack people have, the answer is always Jesus. He has seen addicts get clean, marriages repaired and negative-focused people get remade into Christian disciples.
Each month members visit homes in the neighborhood, distribute food and share the gospel. It’s their “We see You Campaign.”
Our church supports Maurice and Coretta through our Cooperative Program giving. As they plant that new church, let’s ask God to keep them safe as they bring many to Christ!
